Plans, develops and implements age appropriate activities and lessons for pre-school children as directed by the Site Administrator and in compliance with Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.

Scope of Supervision

Equipment Operated
Computer; printer; fax machine; calculator; copier; telephone; laminator; thermometer; television; DVD player; stove; digital camera; microwave; van; and other standard office and classroom equipment.

Confidential Data
Student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement; center proprietary information.

Working Conditions
Classroom environment. Good working conditions. Employee may be exposed to childhood illnesses, diseases and blood borne pathogens. The work environment involves risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of a classroom environment. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office and classroom equipment, and observance of safety and traffic regulations. Exposure to typical traffic conditions and hazards when visiting other campuses or other locations. Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions when supervising outside play.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently stands, walks, sits, stoops, and kneels for periods of time. Employee converses with children and others in person and occasionally by telephone. The employee exhibits usual digital dexterity and vision demands. Employee may be required to carry supplies and equipment, and lift children up to 45 pounds.

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: a High School Diploma or GED with three years related experience.

Applicant must successfully pass required background checks, drug test, driving records check and obtain a physical which includes verification of immunization against Tdap and MMR in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable state licensing laws.

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

Licensure or Certification Requirements
First Aid, Infant/Child/Adult CPR , Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting, and Communicable Disease Management Training Certifications; State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Essential Job Duties
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons who are disabled under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Plans, develops and implements age appropriate activities and lessons for pre-school children as directed by the Site Administrator in compliance with Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.
Maintains daily and monthly records of children and classroom activities.
Performs child assessments and evaluations as directed. Develops and implements individualized teaching strategies for each child in accordance with assessment and evaluation results.
Develops and maintains child portfolios including a variety of observations, anecdotal notes, assessments, evaluations, parent-teacher meeting notes, samples of child’s work and other records.
Regularly communicates with parents and Site Administrator as to the progress of each child and conducts biannual parent-teacher conferences.
Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for children. Complies with Ohio state licensing policies and procedures and maintains required records and files for inspection.
Demonstrates teamwork by assisting other classroom teachers and the Site Administrator as appropriate. Maintains effective communication with parents.
Oversees the provision of meals and snacks. Performs general duties to prepare and maintain classroom. Sweeps floor, cleans tables, throws away trash and cleans and sanitizes room and items as required.
Plans activities for outdoor classroom and monitors outside play. Plans and conducts field trips.

Administers first aid as appropriate and documents incident on Incident/Injury Report form. Reports all injuries to the Site Administrator. Assists children with toileting and teaches hygiene.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Demonstrates professionalism in all activities, including talk, dress and actions.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.

Knowledge of: Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards; educational practices; teaching methods; classroom management; child growth and development; behavior management principles; general office practices; infant/child/adult CPR ; first aid; child abuse recognition and reporting; and communicable disease management.

Skill in: teaching; operation of computer; application of Microsoft Office software including Word and Outlook; verbal and written communications; organizing items in alphabetical, numerical and subject order; listening; researching various resources to perform job duties.
