The primary purpose of this position is to assist the teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
Interact and encourage the children in daily activities.
Provide the children with a safe, loving and nurturing environment.
Help the children control their behavior using a positive and appropriate approach; being consistent at all times.
Provide a nurturing environment while assisting the children toward independence.
Promote integral learning during meal times and help the children learn appropriate social skills.
Maintain good communication with parents and make each parent feel at ease in the program.
Acknowledge all parents when entering or exiting the program each day.
Assist he teacher in planning activities for the group and offer suggestions and information about the children.
Maintain a room arrangement that is safe, inviting, interesting, and stimulating.
Attend all staff meetings.
Attend workshops and in-service as directed.
Assist in record keeping for the classroom. Know the number of children in your care.
Report suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect to the director.
Be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the conditions of the program on an ongoing basis.
Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
Facilitate the use of curriculum resources with the children.
Participate in planning sessions.
Prepare materials for daily activities.
Prepare snacks and clean-up following snake or any meal time.
Arrive at work five minutes before scheduled time.
Remain open to positive suggestions and able to accept constructive criticism.
Apply disciple with love, respect, firmness, and consistency. Expect the best from each child by encouraging acceptable behavior and manners through positive reinforcement. Help children develop self-control and a clear understanding of the expectation while at the program. Know and understand Positive Discipline.
Be knowledgeable about emergency procedures (fire, medical, storm, first aid and CPR).
Observe and maintain the confidentiality of the children, parents, staff and the program.
Maintain a sense of humor. Have fun. Remember what it is like to be a child.
Take proper care of the equipment and materials and tech the children to do the same.
Set reasonable rules and expectations, maintain consistency in the classroom and throughout the school.
Be attentive to parents though pleasant daily contact, as well as informative communication through daily notes, newsletters, and lesson plans.
Maintain a total awareness of the children’s safety during all activities.
Supervise the playground according to procedure.
