Assist in conducting intensified learning experience for students in assigned area and relieve teacher of various non-instructional duties
Assist teacher in management of student arrival and departure time
Perform supportive tasks for that is primarily of a non-instructional nature
Assist teacher and students in achieving the objectives of the program or activities
Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher
Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up learning activities
Help teacher supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom, including hall, lunchroom, auditorium, gym, and playground
Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
Assist teacher with copying, organizing, and filing materials for distribution to students
Help with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
Participate in staff-development training programs to improve job performance
Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned
Help decorate the classroom for special events, PTA meetings, holidays, etc.
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
All Federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate
Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
, plus one of the following:
Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment
Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience preferred
Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills required to meet the goals of the position.
Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form
Demonstrated ability to relate to students and parents in a positive manner
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
