The Technical Architect position will be responsible to lead the System z (IBM mainframe) Engineering group in establishing a technical vision and direction for existing and new products. With minimal supervision, analyze, model, design and develop high performance solutions for enterprise class applications. Roles and responsibilities include:
Initiate, lead and work on highly complex projects
Design solutions for new and existing infrastructure as well as ensure architecture and implementation meet desired performance, scalability, security, reliability, and availability attributes at all application tiers
Provide architectural guidance to various cross functional teams in the organization
Provide SME for various technologies
Work with Product Management to evaluate requirements
Develop skills in company's technical community
Ensure compliance with architecture, technology and security standards based on industry best practices
Judgment: Plan scope, develop project and engineering plans, identify problem areas and select architectural approaches, evaluate project feasibility with very minimal supervision. Extensive latitude for independent judgment.
Leadership: May lead teams directly, or consult to portions of the technical community. May be recognized for technical leadership outside the company. Sought out as an expert in various areas. Mentor less experienced peers.
Outside and Corporate Interaction: Work on industry teams as appropriate and participate as speaker at industry events, and regularly update executive management. As solution Architect, interact extensively with customer staff (possibly management or executive) during the course of the sales process, and throughout the implementation.
Communication: Maintain regular clear and instructive communications with the management team and other key stakeholders. Written documents, email, presentations (PowerPoint, WebEx) are required and must demonstrate organization, clarity, and insight to technical, customer and market issues.
Collaboration: Work positively and effectively with Marketing, other Engineering groups, Business Development, Advanced Research and Product Management to analyze and make decisions about product decisions.
Measurement: Monitor, measure, analyze and report on key measures of success with action registers and other measures
QUALIFICATIONS, KEY SKILLS
B.S.in Engineering or Computer Science; M.B.A. or M.S. preferred
Minimum 10 years experience demonstrating technical leadership
Proven reputation for developing innovative and successful commercial enterprise-level software with emphasis on data management and high performance
Expert knowledge on the IBM z Series platform related to high performance processing – I/O, data movement, data transformation – of large volumes of data
Knowledge of LUW (Linux, Unix, Windows) platforms
Working knowledge of IBM Assembler language
Experience developing data driven applications supported by DB2, Oracle and SQL Server databases
Excellent analytical, written, verbal and presentation skills
Experience using Agile/SCRUM methodologies
Experience developing in C/C++ and Java
