The purpose of the Technical Design Manager is to provide leadership and management of the technical specifications team for documentation and

engineering design for all aspects of assigned product line to ensure product specification, functionality, quality, cost, details and changes are documented; to effectively manage the product approval process and schedule by performing the following duties:

Essential Job Functions

1. Manage the technical specification process within the Private Brand product life cycle from design concept handoff to approval for production

2. Partner with Product Development teams to create documentation of Private Brand products for vendors and internal teams

3. Partner with Sourcing for timely delivery of technical specification for costing purposes

4. Partner with QA to ensure quality, safety and regulatory standards and requirements are incorporated into technical specifications

5. Manage the sample submittal process through to approval by all partners

6. Manage, Issue and update technical documentation of Private Brand current products

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages the technical specifications team workload and deliverables. The Technical Specifications team is comprised of 1-3 exempt level Sr. Technical Designers and/or Technical Designers.

Education/Experience Normally requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering, manufacturing management or design. Requires a minimum of five to seven years related experience and/or training, supervisory or management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Specifically, functional design experience should have involved or included softlines or apparel products with technical design, fit approval process sample development to top of production, textiles, sewing construction, stitch types knowledge, hardlines or accessories products with industrial engineering and/or technical knowledge of Injection & Compression molding plastics, Die cast, metal stamping or industrial engineering background, licensed branded product and/ or private label product, regular interface with merchandisers, product developers, domestic and overseas vendors, and internal business partners. Must have recent experience operating in a fast paced, deadline driven environment and possess the ability to effectively self manage deadlines.

Requires expertise in at least one program, such as Illustrator, Solidworks or Pro/Engineer. Must be self-motivated, energetic and results-oriented with the ability to function effectively as a team member yet work independently. Requires the ability to communicate ideas within a highly collaborative design process including giving and receiving constructive feedback on design work. Must be able to accurately communicate product specifications to Sourcing, vendors and internal parties for product development and pricing.

trong computer skills with knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Adobe Suite: Photoshop and Illustrator, CS3 or higher in MAC, Additional CAD software optional. The incumbent must have high level of organizational skills, be team player and able to exhibit leadership skills. The incumbent will be able to coach and mentor the technical specifications team, building the infrastructure for the Private Brands with an eye for the growth ahead.
