THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY of CANADA is hiring for a Senior Claims Specialist for the Major Case Unit. He or she will be reporting to the Major Case and Claim Product Manager, Toronto. He or she will investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate and settle assigned claims in accordance with Best Practices. Provide quality claim handling and superior customer service on assigned claims, while engaging in indemnity & expense management. Promptly manage claims by completing essential functions including first contact, investigation, damages development, evaluation, reserving, and claim resolution.
-Provide timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on application of policy information to facts or allegations of each case.
-Investigate claims through prompt contact with appropriate parties such as policy holders, claimants, law enforcement agencies, witnesses, brokers and technical experts to determine the extent of damages and contribution potential.
-Identify resources for specific activities required to properly investigate claims such as outside claim representatives, fire or fraud investigators and other experts.
-Assess exposure to liability and develop an estimate of damages for all components of the loss.
-Keep effective diary management system to ensure that all claims are handled timely. At required time intervals, evaluate damage exposure and establish proper indemnity & expense reserves.
-Responsible for prompt and proper disposition of all claims within delegated authority. Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds or their legal representatives. Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.
-Verify the nature and extent of property damage by obtaining and reviewing appropriate records and damages documentation.
-Appoint counsel to defend claims as required, follow all current litigation management procedures and direct counsel appropriately in the defense of the claim.
-Attend discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials and all other legal proceedings, as needed.
-Work closely with staff or outside counsel to develop a litigation plan, including discovery and legal expenses to assure effective resolution and to satisfy our customers
-Collaborate and engage with US Major Case Unit (MCU) as required
-Update appropriate parties as needed, providing new facts as they become available
-A university degree and 8 years plus in claim operations environment determining coverage/fault, investigation, evaluation, negotation and settlement
-Must have excellent interpersonal, presentation, organization and negotiation skills
-Be a strategic thinker, with the ability to articulate the big picture
-Skilled at working collaboratively in a team environment both asa member and team leader
-Fully bi-lingual in French and English
-Fully licensed in Quebec to adjust commercial claims
-Strong communication skills
-Exceptional time and project management skills an asset
-Some traveling throughout Canada and the US constituting about 25% of the position
-Strong PC skills
