Position Summary

This is a temporary position at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, AZ, lasting from approximately Memorial Day through mid-August 2013. This position involves walking throughout the grounds during the day with a sense of watchfulness, reporting and/or acting upon any situation that requires attention in order to keep people where they need to be and to correct unsafe situations. The position involves frequent interaction with Arboretum visitors and will need to work with Arboretum staff in all functional areas. A majority of work hours will be spent outdoors in the summer heat and may be physically strenuous.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Walks throughout Arboretum grounds, watching for suspicious activity and safety hazards. *Provides a wide range of informational services to visitors, including trail recommendations, park history, natural history interpretation, plant identification, driving directions, and weather forecasts. *May provide demonstrations and guided tours about the park's history and ecology. *Assists any persons in buildings or on grounds needing directions and/or Arboretum information. *May assist with crowd management at public events on site.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Not applicable for this position.

Additional Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of experience and/or education in security-related field. *Six months of experience and/or education in plant biology, environmental science, ecology, anthropology, natural history, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications

Educator, trainer, and/or team leader experience is a plus.
