TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to teach the fundamental principles of materials science in the department's undergraduate core curriculum. This includes thermodynamics, kinetics, structure and crystallography, quantum mechanics, electronic materials, biomaterials, and mechanics of materials. Will also teach in the Laboratory for Advanced Materials (LAM) using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning acoustic microscopes, four-point probes, and variable scanning magnetometers. Duties also include ensuring lab safety at all times and assisting in the day-to-day operation and preparation of DMSE teaching laboratories.

REQUIREMENTS: proven experience and interest in working in an academic teaching environment and the ability to work effectively with faculty and graduate teaching assistants to deliver science and engineering content to students in the department's undergraduate teaching labs. A B.S. degree in materials science and engineering, geology, or related field is preferred. A background using and teaching with chemical analytical equipment, microscopy, and X-ray diffraction would be a plus. Well developed organizational, presentation, and time management skills are essential. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills suited to working with students and staff with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. MIT-00009275
