Deep Focus is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to be responsible for the successful execution of technology projects, and to assist in implementing best practices for development and management. The Technical Lead is a hands-on role intended to lead development and ensure the quality of work done at Deep Focus, while helping the team use emerging web technologies to grow the agency’s capabilities. Our ideal candidate understands the full scope of delivering web-based projects, the difference between doing it right and getting it done, and isn’t afraid to try something new.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Technical Development and Management : Manage day-to-day development, guiding overall development progress towards successful deliverables including:
    • Architecting technical components for project solutions
    • Write functional and technical briefs in coordination with Account/Production teams
    • Leading development team in problem solving to meet project goals
    • Writing application code
    • Conducting code reviews
    • Support developers in using CVS workflows
    • Leading functional, load and security testing
  • Technical Support: Ongoing management of live sites/systems including:
    • Managing hosting environments provided by Deep Focus for clients
    • Monitoring sites for uptime, performance and errors
    • Troubleshooting client and consumer reported issues
  • Technology Expertise:
    • Evaluate client briefs and work with Creative and Account teams on projects and proposals that both meet consumer and client expectations, but also have a clear path for successful execution within given constraints
    • Research and provide technical solutions to solve online communications, business strategy and program needs for clients and prospects
    • Evaluate potential 3rd party vendors
  • 5+ years experience with at least 2 years of Technical or development lead experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
  • Experience administering subversion and git code repositories, and supporting developers in workflows
  • Strong grasp of web technologies and architectural principles necessary for designing scalable, extensible and maintainable web applications and services using a combination of server-side, database, caching and CDN solutions
  • Hands-on development skills with:
    • PHP, including MVC approach and frameworks such as CodeIgnighter or Zend
    • ASP .NET4, MVC3
    • Javascript, raw and with popular libraries such as jQuery and Backbone to develop AJAX applications
    • HTML/CSS practices that support progressive enhancement, SEO best practices and Open Graph optimization for both desktop and mobile web
    • SQL and NO SQL database design and administration
  • Extensive experience with social APIs and best practices for implementing, specifically: Facebook REST and JS APIs, Open Graph and Twitter.
  • Experience in using cloud-based CDN and hosting products from Rackspace, Amazon and Heroku, specifically virtual servers, S3, CloudFront
  • Experience with administering Linux-based web hosting, specifically:
    • Ubuntu and RHEL
    • Advanced Apache and Nginx configuration and management
    • PHP
    • MySQL and popular No SQL databases
    • Memcached or Redis
    • Node.js
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft web stack covering:
    • IIS 7.5 configuration
    • ASP .NET 4.0 (MVC3 and Entity frameworks)
    • MS SQL Server 2008
  • Working knowledge of application programming for iPhone/iPad/Android using 3 rd party technologies such as Phonegap or Titanium
  • Experience working within a structured software development process such as Agile or SCRUM.
