The Technical Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for the product planning and execution of the product development of new web-based solutions, including: authoring and prioritizing product and client user stories, identifying integration capabilities with existing functionality, understanding the product vision, and working closely with Technology/Development, Client Services, Strategic Product
Director, and other stakeholders to ensure product specifications and customer satisfaction goals are met. The TPM’s job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals.

  • Managing the entire software development lifecycle from
    strategic planning to tactical activities supporting development
    • Identify client needs, expectations, and desires
    • Review and thoroughly understand the business and contractual requirements related to the development of any new web-based solution
    • Develop, communicate, promote, and continuously refine a product vision, strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals, objectives, and market needs to
      support the client and WebMD.
  • Specifying solution requirements, developing user stories and leveraging existing functionality, while working closely with any involved client (as guided by Client Services stakeholders or other product leads)
    • Facilitate feedback and input into product design from client and internal design and development team meetings
    • Leverage internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify integration points and to take advantage of any existing functionality and processes that will support the build
    • Decompose, document and verify prioritized product user stories
    • Develop and verify product launch plan and key deliverables with milestones and assigned accountability
  • Developing and implementing a go-to-market plan, working with all necessary departments and client to execute on time
    • Align both timeline and plan with Client Services and any client-related test and go-live dates per any contractual commitments
  • Analyzing and recommending opportunities for integration points of key functionality into WebMD-branded products for resell
    • Identify opportunities to incorporate core assets into other product solutions
  • Supporting client, solution team, and/or Client Services in
    planning and designing and with development and launch stages (if applicable)
  • Review and document product user stories
  • Develop and deliver user stories related to prioritized features along with corresponding justification
  • Define user scenarios for agile development
  • Position the product with the client and maintain client input and status support
  • Be the team leader for interactions with functional teams such as development, sales, marketing communications, client services and the client
  • Be a subject matter expert with respect to the product, market trends, competition, data and business needs: Being
    the internal and external product champion.
  • Develop the core features, positioning and messaging for the client with respect to the product
  • Perform product demos to client in support for client related initiatives
  • Act as a leader within the company with respect to particular major product solutions development and/or major enhancements
  • Be the “voice of the customer” to development
  • Determine features to deliver in future releases (if necessary
  • Document product user stories
  • Update executives and other stakeholders on release status
  • Ready the company to maximize the opportunity of leveraging similar capabilities

  • Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Product Manager or comparable product, brand or client management experience
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products in an agile development environment
  • 5+ years of experience in a job in the healthcare, consumer web-based market or health plan
  • Strong understanding and experience working with health plan, benefits and/or decision support solutions with a preference for solid claims data understanding
  • Understanding of market transparency (cost and quality) needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent working experience (MBA preferred)
  • Technical background a plus
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Must have strong decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Must have a sense of urgency and be deadline-oriented
  • Must be able to work closely with client and manage client-specific project
    • Constantly maintain the prioritized user stories, so you can give development direction with each sprint
    • During the sprint, the PM monitors progress, clarifies story details, validates completed stories and researches stories for the next sprint
    • Product Manager is on hand during the course of the sprint for questions and confirmation of progress in the ‘right direction’.
    • Meet with client stakeholders to discuss, define and capture requirements for development of significant solutions and major enhancements
    • Manage the Product Management documentation-product backlog(s), release plan(s), product roadmap, and any other requirements-level notes/sketches
    • Communicate and capture requirements in a way that people can understand them, e.g., u ser stories, test cases, UI sketches, requirements – and review them and get final sign off from client
    • Present the highest priority user stories – and suggest the proposed scope of iteration
    • Agree to sprint objectives with development team – this is a
      collaborative process
    • Update release plan further and ensure that the client and internal key stakeholders are aware of the sprint scope
    • Circulates sprint review invitation to relevant key stakeholders, including client
    • Receives a presentation of the work completed during the
      course of the sprint
    • The Product Manager and client decide whether the sprint objectives have been achieved (or not).
    • Define, schedule and monitor progress against a top-level product release plan
