As Technical Service Engineer (Electrical), provide technical assistance with focus on electrical drive system to customers in order to improve and/or maintain machine reliability and to insure customer satisfaction with Caterpillar machines. This position is responsible for providing technical direction, guidance and support to customers for the erection and service of assigned product line(s). This position will provide troubleshooting and problem resolution on all types of drive & control systems for new and old equipment and electrical upgrades being installed and maintained on Caterpillar mining equipment.


1. Resolve field problems by investigating, analyzing, and working with engineering to develop solutions.

2. Commission and tune drive systems for new machines and upgrade packages for existing machines.

3. Provide recommendations for hardware and software improvements to increase productivity and decrease maintenance.

4. Assist assembly contractor with interpretation of instructions and site drawings for the installation of the electrical systems on large excavating equipment.


Required Qualifications:
Individuals must have exceptional written and oral communication skills, provide clear and concise reports, and record and interpret electrical system signals and recordings to help define and correct problem conditions.

Knowledge Requirements:
BS Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience.

3 to 5 years relevant experience in DC drive systems and AC drive systems as it relates to large excavating equipment.

3 to5 years relevant experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting as it relates to large excavating equipment

Software requirements include MS Office Products: Word, Excel, and Outlook. PLC Software – Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE; Analog and Digital Drive Systems – Siemens, GE.

Additional Job Requirements:
Must be willing and prepared to travel domestically and internationally up to 90% of the time.

Must have a working knowledge of how large mining excavators operate and how the numerous systems on the machines interact with each other.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of the Caterpillar organization, its products, policies and procedures

MSHA Certification preferred.
