Position Description
The main objective of the Technical Writer is to help Shift4 customers understand how to effectively leverage Shift4 products and features by driving improvements in software to make it more intuitive. This individual will add in-line content (e.g., bubble helps, hover-overs, etc.) where appropriate and create end-user help documents to provide further clarity on Shift4 software.
To be successful, the candidate for the Technical Writer position must be an adaptable, team player who can work in a dynamic environment. They must be able to take initiative in order to deliver the exceptional products and services that are the hallmarks of Shift4.

Essential Functions
Gather content from subject matter experts (SMEs)
Verify the content through testing
When the explanation of a certain feature is complicated, look for ways to suggest improvements in the software to make the user experience more intuitive
Look for the opportunity to add bubble-help or hover-over text to offer clarity at the point of use for software
When a traditional document is needed, gather content, verify the content, organize it to produce clear, concise, accurate documentation
Track progress in our tracking system (RallyDev)
Provide regular updates to the teams and the Director of Development
Coordinate dependencies with other departments
Take notes and record action items during meetings and ensure follow-up
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Technical writing experience is a plus
Experience in payment processing or software development is a plus
