Title: Technical Writer

Location: Springfield, VA

SR# 2014-0015

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials. Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications, such as technical journals, user and training manuals, government proposals, websites and podcasts. Gathers information through research, statistical reports and interviews with technical staff. Develops cataloging systems, and maintains records, files, electronic media and archiving of information for publications. Assists in preparing material for technical seminars and business forums. May be called upon to assist in technical or business presentations in such meetings as business or customer needs require. Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, etc. Support Defense threat Reduction Agency by providing technical writing support for instructional system design and development as well program of instruction POI development and update. Perform technical writing/editing, editorial consultation, copy design/editing, proofreading, or overall documentation review. Provide coordination with government and subject matter experts to define documentation content, guidelines, specifications, and development schedules. Prepare required documentation in an appropriate format. Adhere to required configuration management or quality assurance standards. Analyze data and user requirements ensuring that documentation is clear, concise, and valid. Perform substantive editing ensuring document organization and quality. Ensure that documents follow the appropriate style guide. Responsible for any activity in the production cycle from inception through document delivery.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have curriculum and POI design experience, preferably in ISD, SAT and or ADDIE processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in instructional systems design is preferred.
  • Advanced writing and research skills required.

  • United States Citizen
  • Minimum of an active Secret Security Clearance
