Engineering technical support capability, proficient in multiple advanced or future vehicle systems such as electronic chassis or powertrain controls, hybrid vehicles, electric drivetrains, anti lock brake systems, or advanced fabrication of mechanical systems and components. Responsible for the vehicle development of complex and specialized mechanical systems, proprietary vehicle development tests, and/or electrical tests on product components. Possesses strategic skill sets for development of future vehicle programs and technologies. Exercises independent judgment with limited or no supervision from management.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and troubleshoot future vehicle programs or technologies (i.e., battery interface, break corners, and wiring configurations)for hybrid and fuel cell vehicles
Design and develop specialized measurements, special purpose instrumentation and/or shop or laboratory test equipment
Execute strategic initiatives (i.e., stability control, chassis control, fuel cell applications, structure bracketry and development) in preparation for vehicle control applications
Recommends developmental revisions of product or component design to engineers
Coordinates and exchanges findings with engineering personnel outside work group on a frequent basis
Execute proprietary GM vehicle tests requiring significant training and experience, with precision to provide consistent engineering results
Keeps records on work performed, analyzes data collected, and reports results
Trains, develops, and mentors co-workers
Develops and establishes project timelines for test schedules
Follows GM corporate standard and policies relative to safety practices and provides safety leadership to their peers
Knowledge in MS Office (Word) - intermediate level
Knowledge with Lotus Notes or other email communication tool - intermediate level
Experience with create or modify vehicle componentry utilizing Product engineering layouts - 12+ years
Possesses multiple areas of development expertise, including overall vehicle development, product electronics, or component fabrication
Strong creativity in solving engineering issues and leading vehicle development activities
Strong level of interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with engineers, managers, and peers
Strong willingness to learn new methods, systems and technology
Ability to work independently, exhibiting teamwork skills with other co-workers - 12+ years experience
Highly specialized knowledge of complex mechanical and/or electrical concepts
Thorough knowledge of engineering math - 12+ years experience
Ability to read highly complex engineering drawings - 12+ year experience
High level of problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis for accurate resolution of highly complex problems
Ability to handle multiple assignments and assign prioritization to tasks according to aggressive deadlines - 12+ years experience
Strong project management/planning skills to clearly understand and forecast project timelines
Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide training and support to peer Technicians
Automotive technology experience - 12+ years
Position related experience relative to automotive technical experience or dealership experience - 12+ years
Position specific experience as a Mechanical or Electrical Technician - 12+ years
Two-year Associate Degree in Mechanical, Electrical field or Automotive Technology or equivalent training
