Description/Job Summary Tate & Lyle Specialty Food Ingredients, McIntosh, AL, has an opening for a Maintenance Mechanical Technician. Candidate must have 7 years minimum industrial experience in craft or tech school degree in craft and 3 years minimum industrial experience with a demonstrated experience of plant equipment (pumps, piping systems, columns, tanks, compressors, centrifuges, etc) including troubleshooting and mechanical seal replacement. Welding experience is desirable.

Required Skills
  • Ability to obey all safety rules and identify and correct potential safety problems
  • Repair and maintain equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, maintenance and repair manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications
  • Must be able to interface with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to review work orders, create work orders, input parts and labor used on work orders, look up spare parts and identify storeroom location, and complete work orders (electronically)
  • Communicate with production prior to starting job and when job is completed
  • Ability to clearly communicate this information to team members
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and individually as required
  • Assist I&E technicians as needed/as asked
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of tools and equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment/systems as required
  • Follow SOP’s and/or PM task instruction sets
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to and remove/replace defective parts, using fork truck, hoist, power tools and hand tools
  • Maintain maintenance on assigned machines (Millwrighting skills necessary)
  • Ability to provide preventive maintenance to equipment
  • Must be able to use precision-measuring and testing instruments in performance of mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Identify and implement solutions to recurring equipment problems
  • Required to clean up after jobs are completed. Perform housekeeping as required in shops and in plant
  • Perform routine work as scheduled or as time permits and performing preventive maintenance activities as time permits
  • Must have the ability to identify and order repair parts using data from multiple sources, including stores catalog, vendor drawings and direct contact with manufacturers
  • Must be able to identify the need for, and request engineering/vendor assistance as required
  • Communicate and work with other groups (process engineers, production technicians, quality control) as necessary to promote efficiency in problem solving and work scheduling

Required Qualifications
  • High School graduate or GED
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • 7 years minimum industrial experience in craft or tech school degree in craft and 3 years minimum industrial experience
  • Demonstrated experience with plant equipment (pumps, piping systems, columns, tanks, compressors, centrifuges, etc) including troubleshooting, mechanical seal replacement, welding (desirable)
  • Must be willing to work overtime including nights, weekends and holidays, both scheduled and on call-in basis

Details MECHANIC SPECIFIC SKILLS
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical knowledge to analyze and solve mechanical problems such as gearboxes, bearings, blowers centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, agitators, centrifuges, rotary valves, and other process equipment
  • Must be able to inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges and other measuring instruments
  • Must have prior experience in installing special functional and structural parts in equipment such as column packing, distillation column trays, spray headers, centrifuge cloths and knives, filter belts, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in at least five of the following areas:
  • Pump seal installation
  • Rebuilding/ repairing pumps, agitators and gearboxes
  • Dial indicator and laser alignment of rotating equipment
  • Troubleshooting of compressors and vacuum pumps
  • Troubleshooting of refrigeration equipment
  • General Maintenance
  • Lubrication and lubrication routes
  • Preventive maintenance techniques
