Tribune Direct, a dynamic subsidiary of Chicago Tribune Media Group and leading supplier of direct marketing services, has a challenging opportunity to join our team as a Technician at our facility in Northlake, IL just north of Chicago.
In this role, you'll be responsible for performing all maintenance-related functions of the Letter Shop under the direction of supervisory personnel to enable the division to achieve optimum effectiveness of all products produced. In addition, you'll be tasked with ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment and production of quality products which meet customer and division requirements.
To set-up, repair, and monitor automatic equipment including inserters, labelers, strapping machines, hopper loaders, ink jet printers, bindery and other support equipment to ensure efficient production and quality products are produced.
To perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on all Letter Shop equipment in a quality and timely manner to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
To inspect the contents of inserted package, quality of labeling, ink jet printing, folding and sorting to ensure quality products are produced.
To maintain documentation of all maintenance and repairs performed on equipment to analyze equipment performance.
To oversee and maintain an adequate parts inventory for Operations equipment to ensure timely repairs and minimizes downtime.
To inspect the work area daily, insuring that it is exceptionally clean and well organized
To maintain effective and open communication with supervisors and co-workers on any matters impacting the production and/or distribution of the product and to report to the supervisor other matters requiring his/her attention.
Should have a High School diploma or equivalent related experience and 2 years technical training in maintenance.
Must have strong mechanical aptitude, good mechanical knowledge and the ability to operate equipment including inserters, labelers, Videojet printers, stackers, pallet jacks, and fork lift. Must have basic electrical skills and must be skilled in the use of basic mechanics tools.
Requires bending, twisting, knelling, walking and standing for long periods of time and the ability to lift 70 pounds.
Must have the ability to work independently and work under deadline pressure. Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel.
Typically requires one to two years experience in a high volume direct/shared mail operations to meet standards in all aspects of the Technicians requirements.
Ability to work nights, weekends, & holidays as required
Position requires working in production areas while fork-lifts, pallet jacks, inserting and related equipment is in use. Working in this environment directly results in exposure to paper dust in the air and high noise levels from running equipment.
