Position Description The Communications Team is responsible for content syndication, building industry credibility and thought leadership, key messaging, and media relation strategy. The team goal is to raise brand awareness and share the value of the company with the public. Internally, the communications team ensures company-wide consistency of brand, message, and external messaging.

The Communications intern will get a first-hand look at how a startup maintains its public identity, targets and works with reporters to share our story with, and gains industry credibility through events and awards. The core of the position will involve maintaining records of industry events, awards, deadlines, and contacts, research and reporting for press campaigns, as well as assisting with messaging. Some tasks will be long-term, but most will be on a short turn around. Essential Functions Assisting with the planning, coordination, and execution of industry awards, speaking opportunities and events for company executives Helping with media targeting and reporter segmentation through researching/building reporter contact lists Interfacing with social media, and customer service teams to identify unique user stories and testimonials for potential press use Monitoring media coverage, data archiving, and drafting initial reports by keeping an organized chart of press hits, pending placements, and targets Continuously research, analyze and stay ahead of the curve on news and industry trends, to provide input to press strategy Proofreading materials created by Communications team and others in the organization, along with drafting press releases, case studies, one-pagers, and media pitches Pitching stories to trade and local media by phone and email in time, if qualified.

Job Qualifications Past internship or related experience in the communications, analyst relations, event coordinator and/or public relations field is a must Undergraduate student, with a degree in Communications, Public Relations and/or Marketing. Applicant can be recent graduate. Proficient knowledge of industry software tracking referral links on Google Analytics and power searches on Cision, and other key Internet tools Great write with excellent grammar and proofreading skills, and AP Style familiarity Must be available to work a minimum of 2-3 full days per week Preferred PR Agency experience a plus Enthusiasm for startup culture and entrepreneurship Venture backed startup experience preferred Desire to enter Communications / Public Relations field Regularly reads TechCrunch, Bits Blog, Mashable, The Next Web, Digits Blog, MediaPost, and Venturebeat Thoughtful and cultivated social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, FourSquare, Pinterest, and Path), and open to utilizing these profiles to research/connect with influencers Ability to cultivate strong personal relationships Personal Love the web, mobile and technology Confident and fun Self aware with integrity Thrive in a fast-paced environment Positive, upbeat attitude Compensation College credit available, free drinks and snacks, video games, and a fun work environment with a great team Apply Please send your resume, social profile links, and one paragraph describing the best office culture you ’ve ever been a part of to Matt Clark, Director of Communications at
