To support and maintain phone systems within BBAHC

Qualifications:Must have:
General knowledge of Internet technologies and applications

Experience working with PC hardware

High school Diploma

2 years experience performing semi-skilled and skilled work in telephone and data communications installation, maintenance and repair

2 years experience programming and administration of NEC telephone and data communications network equipment

Interest in travel to install and maintain village based equipment

Good troubleshooting skills

Ability to work as a team member.

Capable of lifting 40 pounds of equipment.

Proven ability to learn and master new skills.

Desirable:
CompTIA A+ certification

Cisco certifications such as CCNA or CCDA

Experience working with other PBX systems or IP Telephony

Essential Functions:
The Telecommunications Technician evaluates communications (telephone system) breakdown problems between system components (remote electronic and onsite).

Makes repairs or contacts appropriate service providers for repairs to communication systems. Designs or specifies, installs, repairs, programs, administers and manages PBX and other telephone equipment in BBAHC offices and facilities, including telephone hardware and switching equipment, internal lines, and other peripheral equipment.

Installs, maintains, repairs, relocates and removes data communication copper and fiber-optic cables and equipment at BBAHC offices and facilities, including internal lines, local area networks, and other peripheral equipment.

Contacts and coordinates the work of contract service providers in the physical installation, repair and modification of telecommunication and data systems for BBAHC.

Confers with BBAHC department staff to determine long term telecommunication or data communication needs and provides consultation in the maximization of equipment usage.

Provides training in the use of telecommunication equipment.

Reviews service and new installation contract provisions, makes determinations as to contract deficiencies and confers with contractors on the necessary modifications to the installation plans.

Orders and stores equipment and stock.

Prepares records of telecommunication and data communications installations.

Evaluates new products on the market for applicability to possible future installations.

Gain additional knowledge of various operating systems, computer hardware, phone systems and local area networks and participate in the evaluation of new hardware and software developments. Administration duties include basic user training and management of BBAHC computer systems.

Assist in maintaining documentation, policies, procedures, and configuration information as well as those documents used by the help desk in troubleshooting problems.

Distributes notification of changes to all affected users.

Collaborates with ITS staff to meet the needs of the users.

Performs other duties as assigned by the CIO.

Working Conditions

This position requires long periods of work in front of a computer. Immediate, careful attention to various systems is required to keep them operational. Most work must be accomplished within a time deadline. Tedious eye to hand tasks are often required.

Travel to villages may include alternate modes of transportation including: skiff, snow mobile, 4-wheeler, and small unpressurized aircraft. Travel up to 25% of the time is required.

Most work is performed in an office setting, clinic setting, or a computer room with constant low noise and cooled air. The work involves sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and carrying boxes usually less than 40 pounds and work in confined crawl spaces and attics running computer or phone cabling.
