This is a technical position responsible for the installation, removal and modification of telecommunications equipment in conformance with customer installation specifications. Telecommunications equipment includes but is not limited to cable racking and iron work, equipment frames, copper/fiber optic/ RF transport equipment, secondary power distribution equipment and data switching /routing components. Work environments for the telecommunications equipment installer IV includes central office (CO), mobile switching office (MSO), cell sites, outside plant (OSP) and customer premises. Incumbent will successfully meet or exceed business unit goals while maintaining quality standards, controlling expenses, and following company and business unit directives and practices.

Required Skills

Essential Functions

  • The Field engineer is responsible for the deployment of BTS equipment ( Base Transceiver Station )in indoor and outdoor cell site environments.
  • Must be capable of perform job activities without supervision or direction.
  • Capable of BTS cabinet delivery and assembly, including all gear to support LTE, CDMA and WiMAX as needed
  • Must be proficient in running, securing and terminating all cabling needed for BTS equipment. Sprint experience preferred
  • Experience using VOM to continuity test copper cabling.
  • Experience using optical source / meter to test fiber cabling
  • Experience testing CAT5/6 cables and assembly of RJ45 connectors.
  • Knowledge of RF Safety / RF Awareness certification preferred
  • Must be capable of performing as the project in-charge person, providing oversight and direction to lower level equipment installers and subcontractors.
  • Responsible for the addition or removal of all telecommunications equipment as defined in the position ‘Overview.’
  • Responsible for the addition and removal of wiring and connections on working and no-working equipment.
  • Responsible for lead verification / continuity testing of all installed equipment and cabling.
  • Must be capable of analyzing and updating job specifications and customer provided drawings. This function includes the capability of resolving discrepancies with job documentation as compared to actual conditions at a job site.
  • Must be capable of providing work assignments to crew and maintaining an efficient project installation.
  • Provide technical support to clients on various central offices, outside plant, and customer premise equipment.
  • Additional responsibilities of the equipment installer IV may also include circuit modifications, software additions/upgrades, power transition work, addition/removal of batteries, equipment testing & troubleshooting and the direct oversight of all volatile work activities.
  • Maintain safe work environment and practices.
  • Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel as required by assignment by car and/or plane, may include weekend travel. Current valid driver’s license required.
  • Develop and maintain technical competencies as defined by departmental management.
  • Provide services in a professional manner, adhering to all CHR Solutions standards as identified in the Employee Handbook, the performance evaluation system, and other company and departmental programs and policies.
  • Identify, meet and/or exceed client expectations within defined parameters related to delivery of services, quality, revenue, and sales goals.
  • It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management, and based on the needs of the business.
  • Ability to effectively utilize MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to operate copier, fax, phone, and other office equipment as needed.
  • Required Experience Education
    • Associate Telecommunications or Computer technical degree is preferred
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
    • A minimum of 2-4 years experience or equivalent as determined by CHR Solutions on equipment being deployed by CHR Solutions customer.
    • Knowledge of communication services and computer equipment required
    • Experience with customer specific installation standards and business processes would be beneficial
    • Strong communication skills
    • Availability to work outside normal business hours at times
