Telecommunication specialists are the face to face contact with the user community. Specialists are responsible for responding to problems/requests about business applications and telecommunications related hardware from Catholic Health Services employees. The Telecommunications Specialists will gather all necessary information to resolve the user’s problem and utilize their skill sand experience to resolve the issue. Responsible to install and maintain all telephone equipment and the associated components that comprise the hospital’s telecommunications network. The technician is responsible to interface with vendors, other departments, and other CHS facilities in order to prioritize and expedite the provisioning of services. They are responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of telecommunications equipment and networking technology for CHS. Place/ run/ pull and maintain the hospital cable and wiring – both copper and fiber optic – necessary to provide voice and data services and enhance the hospital’s infrastructure.

They provide support of remote locations. Telecommunication Specialists must have the ability to lift and move heavy computer equipment. Telecommunication Specialists are responsible for carrying pager and participating in on-call duties.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provides excellent customer service by ensuring that Support services are delivered within Service Level Agreements to meet customer business needs and expectations.
  • Telecommunications Specialists will be logged into HEAT and pick up/work on tickets as they are assigned.
  • Works independently and maintains a high degree of professional conduct at all times.
  • The installation of, repair or and preventative maintenance on all of the hospital’s telephone equipment, both wired and wireless, and all associated services.
  • Perform any require in-service training associated with new equipment and/or services.
  • Handle all repair requests generated within the facilities.
  • Coordinate maintenance replacement spare equipment with depot service provider.
  • Program changes as necessary within the phone systems and other telecom equipment within the CHS network, to include all satellite locations.
  • Place and maintain the hospital cable and wiring – both copper and fiber optic – necessary to provide voice and data services and enhance the hospital’s infrastructure.
  • Install necessary cable and wiring infrastructure to support the Philips patient monitoring systems, the GE fetal monitoring system, and the Lanier dictation system, as well as any systems to be introduced in the future.
  • Maintain test records, equipment inventory, repair records, and monitor the overall performance of all telephone equipment.
  • Ensure that all equipment remains in service and that work performed, whether in-house or by vendor, is in compliance with hospital and industry codes and standards.
  • Regularly test and back up systems, making any changes necessary to ensure peak performance of all equipment.
  • Conducts himself/herself in conformity with all Compliance Assurance Standards and Maintains a supportive attitude toward the mission and goals of Catholic Health Services.
  • Plays an active role in the CHS information security awareness program by following and supporting all CHS information security policies and procedures to the best of their ability. This will include reporting any suspected fraud, abuse, or violation of policy to the appropriate management or reporting mechanism.
  • Maintains competency by participating in continuing education and seminars specific to job responsibilities within CHS IT. Attends scheduled training and completes self-study courses. Acts as a technical resource to newer advocates. Assists in training newer advocates.
Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Certification in metallic and fiber networking infrastructure.
  • Degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience.
  • Travel between CHS locations.
  • A valid NY State drivers license
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Current technical knowledge of electronic equipment.
  • The ability to repair and test equipment.
  • The ability to read and interpret schematic drawings.
  • A working knowledge of Telephone Company Central Office line technology is desired (Including analog, digital Centrex, PRI, etc.)
  • Familiarity with in-house wire and cable distribution systems.
  • Team player with the ability to multi-task.
  • Constant walking and standing, ladder climbing and moderate lifting.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
