The technician's duties are to plan, install, and maintain various communication systems which include radio and satellite within Carolina Gas Transmission territory. The majority of the work performed is independent of supervision or on site assistance; a reliable person with self-starting capabilities is required. The technician should be able to establish work priorities to insure reliability while acting as a representative, diplomatically providing excellent customer service. Often this means working after hours until the job is completed.

Qualifications

There are times when an external or internal customer needs to have immediate attention to a major problem. It is expected that the communications technician will be available for callout at all times by wearing a pager. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, operate power tools and hand tools, and use a laptop computer with various software for electronic equipment. The technician should be a good driver with a current SC driver's license. Hours of work may include being called out or scheduled to work nights and weekends. This position will be required to wear a pager, and work during hurricane response and disaster recovery events. These events may include working safely outside for extended periods in adverse conditions. This position may be required to work in and around natural gas and regulating stations.

Qualifications of the successful candidate must include at least one of the following: For a Level II, must have an Associate’s degree in Electronics from an accredited technical education school with one (1) year experience in electronic equipment such as data radios, modems and satellites or any related electronic experience; or must have a high school diploma and at least five (5) years experience in electronic equipment such as data radios, modems and satellites or any related electronic experience. For a Level III, must have an Associate’s degree in Electronics from an accredited technical education school with three (3) years experience in electronic equipment such as data radios, modems and satellites or any related electronic experience; or must have a high school diploma and at least eight (8) years experience in electronic equipment such as data radios, modems and satellites or any related electronic experience.
