Summary: The Telemetry Technician assumes responsibility for watching the patients rhythms on telemetry monitors, continually assesses patient ;s baseline rhythm and respond to all alarms and immediately notify licensed nurses of significant change in condition or rhythm, and develops rapport and cooperative relationships with nursing unit staff.
Responsibilities: Identifies basic and lethal rhythms and reports baseline rhythms and changes according to department policies and procedures. Assures that alarms are on and appropriately set for all monitored patients Runs EKG strips every shift as well as providing an initial EKG interpretation including: rate, rhythm, PR, QRS, QTc, ST segment and T wave alterations. Monitors other alarms (pulse-ox) and call lights as requested. Uses aviation style hand off at the beginning and end of the each shift with the RN and the relieving Telemetry Technician. Assesses and reports monitor system or equipment malfunctions according to departmental procedure Maintains inventory of telemetry monitoring supplies, Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Non Degree Program : Completed course work in Cardiac Arrhythmia from an accredited program is preferred. 1 Year experience working in a hospital environment and handling patients, or related healthcare position. Medical Assistant and/or EKG Technician program (Preferred).
