The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of the Rice University buses and for providing excellent transportation and customer service to the Rice community and visitors. The driver must be an ambassador to the Rice community and must be tactful at all times. The driver will provide detailed information to passengers on campus events, parking, building and METRO information as needed. He/she must keep up with all university policies and regulations, state and Federal transportation and traffic rules. The driver will be responsible for daily collection of passenger data using a GPS equipment.
HS Diploma or equivalent
Experience may not be substituted for education requirement.
Related bus driving experience.
Education may not be substituted for the experience requirement.
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas class A or B commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past 10 years.
Other Skills Required
- Monitor and operate two-way radio.
- Must be able to operate wheelchair lift in bus.
- Must have knowledge of the Houston area.
- Must be able to operate electronic equipped vehicle.
- Must be hardworking, dependable, a team player and have good customer service skills.
- Must be able to use a computer and GPS equipment.
School bus driving skills and dealing with students, staff and visitors on a regular basis.
Other Skills Preferred
- Great customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively in English with customers.
- Be a great ambassador for the university.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly; must be able to sit for long periods of time, stand, bend, kneel, and stoop; must have keen hand-eye coordination and awareness necessary to operate vehicle; must be able to reach and extend; must be able to lift up to 20 pounds as needed; must be able to climb up and down ladders.

Set schedule which can include days, evenings, and weekends consists of driving climate-controlled bus primarily on campus for eight hours with breaks; some overtime may be necessary; driving to area airports or other local venues will be required; exposure to extremes in weather; uniform provided.
$12.02 per hour/$25,000 per year
