Performs routine work in connection with the custodial and grounds cleanup of a school site, office or related facilities. The position requires a demonstrated ability to work independently from orders and standing instructions, and to perform basic maintenance such as changing lights and securing loose fixtures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Performs routine custodial duties, ensuring that classrooms, lavatories, open areas offices are in usable condition. Sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, mops, strips, and polishes floors. Washes windows, counters, and walls.
Ø Assists in the lifting, moving, and storing of supplies.
Ø Notices and reports repair and maintenance needs and may assist others in making basic repairs such as replacing light fixtures and securing fixtures.
Ø Empties and cleans waste receptacles. Empties trash into large bins.
Ø Cleans walks, eating areas, drinking fountains and other public areas. May perform some light weeding and debris removal.
Ø Moves furniture and equipment. May set up meeting rooms, classrooms, and other facilities for special meetings and events.
Ø Secures facilities by turning off lights, locking doors and gates. Checks doors, windows, and assigned area for vandalism. Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
Ø Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Ø Requires a basic knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial care. Must have a basic knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures. Requires basic knowledge of chemical reactions and handling of hazardous materials.
Education & Experience:
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent, plus reading and writing skills sufficient to perform duties and read and understand MSDS sheets. Prior custodial experience is preferred.
A temporary custodial substitute pool is established to insure custodial services are maintained during the absence of regular employees.
