PCG Education is currently seeking experienced educators as independent contractors, who have a solid knowledge base with literacy, mathematics, science, special education, or English Language Learners. For motivated individuals, there is an excellent opportunity to serve as coaches for teachers of Tennessee schools in greatest need of increasing student achievement. The Tennessee Academic Specialist program was formerly known as the Exemplary Educators program.

Academic Specialists will provide on-going support with:
Professional development in literacy, mathematics, and science standards, standards-based curriculum alignment, the use of data to inform instruction, and evidence-based instructional practices based on the analysis of data.

Data audits and district and school action planning.

Design and implementation of Response-to-Intervention systems to meet the needs of all students.

Embedded 21 st century teaching and learning into curriculum across the content areas.

Leadership and instructional coaching to provide intensive, individualized support for leaders and teachers.

Required Skills

Understands the scope of work required of Academic Specialists (formerly Exemplary Educators).

Understands how to use qualitative and quantitative data to make decisions about core and intervention instructional practices.

Understands adult learning principles and how to coach and model research-based instructional practices.

Understands how to develop and implement explicit action plans for improving delivery and support of research-based instructional improvement,

Possesses the capacity to support educators with implementing collaborative routines to analyze student data to make informed educational decisions.

Demonstrates an understanding of current education practice in Tennessee.

Demonstrates an ability to use technology and other resources to monitor success of professional development in improving educator knowledge and implemented instructional practices and, in turn, student achievement.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s in Education; Masters in Education preferred.

A minimum of ten years experience as an educator and has worked as an educator during some or all of the past five years.

Experience with identifying and implementing change elements that foster teacher and student learning within district and school cultures.

Possesses valid education certification.

Contractor Type: 100 - 170 days per year.
