Physical/Analytical Chemistry Term Professor/Term Assistant Professor

The George Mason University, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science is seeking one teaching faculty member (Term Instructor or Term Assistant Professor) beginning August 25, 2012, to join a department in which both teaching and service are valued.

The primary responsibility of this nontenure-track position is teaching, with four courses in each of the fall and spring semesters. Candidates should be prepared to teach predominantly laboratory classes in analytical and physical chemistry.

Routine administrative support, including student advising, is also required. It is expected that the candidate chosen will engage in department service as requested by the Chair.

The position is offered as an initial nine-month appointment, with the possibility of ongoing renewals in subsequent years.

A minimum of an M.S. in chemistry is required. A higher rank is possible depending on the qualifications of the candidate. The successful candidate will have an established record of effective teaching, and a demonstrated commitment to chemistry education excellence. Use of Blackboard and/or other software (e.g., MS PowerPoint and Excel) for the delivery of course content will be required.
