Cray test engineers work both independently and with other engineers to execute component board and system level test plans to validate new designs and to root cause complex hardware and software problems Position responsibilities include supporting bringup activities of new systems including hardware assembly visual inspection and powerup collaborating with peers to continually evolve and improve the qualification processes to yield more efficient failure detection and prevention supporting engineering manufacturing and field service teams by evaluating proposed fixes and enhancements conducting experiments and communicating recommended changes taking responsibility for an efficient environment by maintaining lab equipment and test resources to the highest standards effectively managing requirements from different engineers while keeping multiple projects moving simultaneously The successful candidate will have a bachelors degree in a technical discipline (or an equivalent combination of experience) and three years of experience in test engineering including bringup debug and validation of components complex circuit boards networks servers and systems Required skills Understanding of functional integration system and regression testing Familiarity with using the Linux shell scripting languages and low level programming Experience using lab rework tools and proficiency in the soldering of fine pitch ICs Experience with debugging and testing voltage regulator modules and associated hardware Proficiency with lab equipment including oscilloscopes logic analyzers protocol analyzers and power load tools Familiarity with standard communication protocols such as Isup2C and SPI The ability to understand the high level architecture of the system as well as a more detailed understanding of subsystem building blocks Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and collaboration tools such as MediaWiki and SharePoint Knowledge of board software and system design and test methodologies Familiarity with defect tracking tools product lifecycle management tools and board design tools Experience creating test project status reports and metrics including a Test Dashboard Experience researching and documenting bug reports upon discovery of a quality problem Experience creating accurate estimates for assigned task duration along with confidence levels and foreseeable dependencies Successful track record of working with geographically distributed crossfunctional groups (SWHW development mechanical supply chain and manufacturing) Strong organizational verbal and written skills Desired skills Experience with the selection development and operation of test automation tools applying the latest techniques in test automation eg datadriven testing Experience with the research development and delivery of internal professional training sessions on test engineering topics Cray Inc is an Affirmative ActionEqual Opportunity Employer Proficiency with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power load tools
