Department/Division Purpose:

The Testing Center is one of three offices under the Learning Center. The Learning Center is part of
the Arts and Sciences Division at Pueblo Community College. The Learning Center’s Mission
Statement is: “The Learning Center engages students in self-advocacy and collaborative learning to
achieve academic success.” The Testing Center’s Purpose is to “serve the assessment and
certification needs of Pueblo and Southern Colorado.”

Job Summary Statement:

All job descriptions incorporate and utilize the principals and tools of continuous improvement. This is the foundation of our accreditation through the Academic Quality Improvement Program. Launched by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in 1999, the program offers an alternative reaccreditation pathway emphasizing continuous quality improvement. The HLC's Handbook for Accreditation summarizes the program as follows: "The Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) infuses the principles and benefits of continuous improvement into the culture of colleges and universities by providing an alternative process through which an already-accredited institution can maintain its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.” Pueblo Community College embraces continuous improvement and has adopted it as its culture and as a necessary part of every job description. In addition, all job descriptions require the utilization of available technology in the completion of the duties.

This full-time Testing Specialist reports to the Coordinator of the Testing Center and is responsible for assisting the Coordinator with testing activities of the college. This includes proctoring of academic and assessment testing during the daytime, evening and weekend hours of operation. The Testing Specialist must be certified by various testing agencies that are partnered with the testing center. This position will assist the Testing Coordinator with coordinating, scheduling, and administering national and state examinations in which produces a revenue generating activity for the campus and all testing and proctored testing for other colleges and universities.

The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

Essential Functions:

Proctors various tests throughout the week, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours of operation.


Proctors various tests and certification exams that require proctor certifications and credentials which include GED, NBCC, IQT, Kryterion, and many other certified tests


Collaborates with other testing centers regarding testing related policies and procedures. Also, maintains current testing procedures and training manuals for Pueblo Community College.


Oversees the maintenance of academic test files and test score files. Will assist with daily deposit.


Coordinates, schedules, and administers national and state examinations as a revenue generating activity for the campus and manages all testing and proctored testing for other colleges and universities.


Coordinates with other academic departments to implement online academic tests for students, and will provide statistical data to the departments.


Researches and identifies state and national tests that could potentially be administered at Pueblo Community College as a service to the community and the region, and recommends contracts with companies when feasible.


Coordinates remote testing needs at high schools and other sites as needed, and will ensure accurate billing for administration of tests as needed. Also coordinates requests for testing of non-PCC exams.


In absence of the Testing Coordinator, the Testing Specialist will oversee the daily operations of the Testing Center and ensure tests are administered in a secure and performance conducive environment.

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Part-time teaching experience will be based on a ratio of 36 credit hours = 1 year of experience.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in a business discipline


Licenses or Certifications:

Ability to become certified with various testing agencies


2 years of experience in customer service.

Experience following strict protocols such as research and testing, and/or supervising a controlled environment such as a library or testing facility.

Experience utilizing various software programs and database management software such as Microsoft Work, Excel, and Outlook.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications


Master’s Degree


Licenses or Certifications:

Already certified in various testing agencies


Experience in a testing environment within a college setting.

Experience in the administration and proctoring of standardized examinations.

Experience working in a busy, customer-oriented environment that requires frequent interactions with customers, recurring deadlines, and interruptions.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Demonstrated ability to multitask and assist with multiple customers at one time on a daily basis.

Demonstrated ability troubleshoot technical issues in computerized testing, and assist other test proctors in resolving those issues.

Knowledge of FERPA.

Salary Information

$30,000 base salary, plus additional compensation based on education and experience. In addition to salary, PCC offers an excellent benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.
