TOOL AND DIE MAKERDOWNTOWN AREAFIRST SHIFT 6 AM TO 2:30 PM Plan and perform a variety of machine and bench operations to alter, construct, and repair a variety of tools, dies, jigs and fixtures Work involves a variety of exacting machine operations where skill and knowledge of tool-making practices are necessary The making of correct decisions to fits, finishes or assembling sequence are essential in order to produce workable parts Repair or construct progressive dies, drawing dies, combination blanking or forming dies Work may involve some development work to work out mechanisms. And details Visualize finished job, select allowances for metal flow, shrinkage or springage, fitting setups and methods to maintain close tolerances Skill in bench work involving filing, scraping, grinding, lapping, fitting, indexing, timing, assembling and adjusting to insure satisfactory operations Make tool tryouts Make parts for higher class tool-makers
Over 1 and up to 2 years in construction and alteration of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures High school graduate Understanding of mathematics, handbook formulas and trigonometry Thorough knowledge of machine shop practice, principles of machine tool operations and mechanics, working qualities of materials Equivalent to formal apprenticeship training Judgment required to setup work following standard methods and procedures to close tolerances Ability to work from ordinary or complex drawings, specifications Must be able to pass the required background and drug screen
