Description

Machines, welds, lays out, and assembles parts to make and repair Tooling and fixtures by performing basic tooling duties with instructions and guidance from Tooling Technicians and Specialist. Capabilities to design by Solid modeling / C.A.D., and developing skill levels needed for Tool building as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Learns to design tooling and fixtures. Increases familiarity with Solid Works design and C.A.D. if applicable

Studies blueprints to determine tooling and customer needs, plans layout and assembly of tooling.

Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock to lay out for machining.

Operates basic machine shop tools and machines: mills, drills, lathes, flamecutters, hoists, etc.

Capable in the use of micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.

Assembles parts into product and verifies dimensions and alignments.

Builds tooling and fixtures by joining parts with intended design requirements.

Welds and assembles tooling when design is complete to insure function, quality, customer satisfaction and SAFETY standards are maintained.

Tests assembled tooling and fixtures to verify correct dimensions and part positions, this includes the use of built in POKE-YOKES to insure quality.

Assists Tooling Technicians and Specialist to increase knowledge and skill level in all aspects of Tooling Design.

Repairs tooling and fixtures damaged in production.

Supports 5S/workplace organization goals of the department and offers suggestions and makes improvements that achieve the department’s performance board metrics.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Entry level 0–2 years, learn to design tooling, learn C.A.D or Solid Modeling. Become a certified welder and develop machine shop skills needed in the production of quality tooling.

Perform problem solving techniques and root cause analysis.

Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluates, estimate and carry out appropriate action for a given situation.
