Trade Marketing/Promotions Manager

Blue Diamond Growers, the industry leader in the manufacturing of Almond products is continuing to experience strong growth in our business. With that growth, comes an excellent opportunity in our Finance Division to support our manufacturing business. This position will be based out of our Sacramento, CA facility.

Job Purpose and Summary

The Trade Marketing/Promotions Manager is responsible for the development, communication, analytics, administration, and budget reconciliation of all trade promotion activity for Blue Diamond’s Consumer Division. The overall objective of the position is to continually improve the effectiveness of trade promotion spending via increase revenue/volume and/or a reduction in spending.

This position reports to the Director of Sales – Consumer

General skills for the position include trade promotion experience in the CPG industry, strong analytical & communication capabilities, and the ability to manage a multi-million dollar budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 50 % - Management of the MEI Trade Promotion system through all phases of the process; from plan development to spending reconciliation with the Finance Department. Activities within the MEI system include:
    • In conjunction with the Director of Sales, communicate volume, revenue, profit, and trade promotion spending goals to Sales by customer, region, and business segment
    • Monitor performance at both the key account and business segment level
    • Provide monthly reports by key account and business segment with actionable recommendations
    • Ongoing evaluation/analysis of promotional activity
    • Responsible for training Brokers, Sales, and Marketing on the MEI system
    • Interface with Finance to insure accurate reconciliation of trade promotion activity
    • Responsible for overseeing deductions through the MEI system
  • 25% - Assist Sales and Marketing in developing an effective trade promotion annual plan that meets the strategic direction of the Consumer Division. The trade promotion plan must work in conjunction with all marketing activity to maximize effectiveness.
  • 10% -Track competitive activity by key account and business segment. Provide monthly competitive evaluations with recommended actions in response to the competition.
  • 5% - Communicate ongoing trade promotion activity to Forecasting and Operations, insuring the availability of finished goods inventory
  • 5% - Provide weekly updates on all new product initiatives in the Consumer Division
  • 5% - Assist the Sales team in providing trade promotion analysis prior to major key account presentations

    Position Dimensions and Qualifications

    Education: 4 year degree, preferably with an emphasis in Business Administration/Marketing

    Experience: Minimum of 5 years within the CPG industry

    Skills and abilities: Strong computer skills

    Interpersonal and Communication: Effective verbal and written communication capabilities

    Technical and Analytical: Strong analytically. Experience working with multiple data sources to include secondary research (IRI)

    Administration and Operations: Exceptional skills to include managing complex trade promotion system

    Physical Demands: Office requirements. 5% travel
