Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
Working knowledge and ability to safely perform skills of the painting field including: methods, practices, materials, surface preparation, and proper mixing and matching of all types of paints, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, wood stains and other finishes. Toning and blending of wood stain finishes to match existing stain finishes.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to deal with customers, shop personnel, and other department personnel.
Working knowledge of operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the painting field.
Must meet minimum physical fitness requirements for this position as verified by qualified medical personnel as a condition of employment.
Must have the ability to operate motor vehicle safely and efficiently. Must have valid motor vehicle operator’s license and insurability.

Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
This is a Security Sensitive Level II Position: Applications for this position will be subject to a criminal background check and may be required to be fingerprinted. Applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing after a conditional offer of employment has been extended but before employment can be confirmed. The offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate passing the drug test. Employees in Level II positions are subject to a post-accident drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications
Wood staining experience is very important: toning and blending of wood stain finishes to match existing stain finishes.
