The primary function of this position is to process shipments of material from the BD Diagnostics campus located in Sparks, Maryland to customers both domestic and international. Specfically, the Traffic Coordinator is responsible for arranging for transportation my all modes including but not limited to , Full Truckload (FTL) Less than Truckload (LTL), Air Freight, Parcel, Ocean and rail. Contents of these shipments may contain materials that are considered hazardous for transportation per DOT, IATA and IMDG regulations. This position must be able recognize those items and process the appropriate documentation for transportation along with all other required documention and shipping papers.
This position will need to plan and schedule a shipment (occasionally on short notice for emergency/rush orders) considering such factors as; nature of items being shipped, method of handling, size, weight, urgency, and cost.
This position will need to react to carrier/equipment issues and provide alternative solutions for transportation.
Assist with answering the DC generic phone extension, transferring calls, sending & receiving faxes, sorting mail, receiving visitors, filing records in accordance with BD guidelines, operation of visitor and/or employee entrance device, assisting all visitors in a professional manner.
May be required to select most economical and efficient common or contract carrier, such as air freight, railway freight, motor carrier, water carrier, or postal service to transport materials, equipment, products, and other items to and from logistic and distribution centers, company plants, customers, subcontractors, or vendors.
Additionally, this position is required to run the delivery due list, create delveries and transfer orders and distribute to the warehouse for order filling. Must be able to flex hours to provide proper coverage in this area.
Interacts with customers, company sales and/or service representatives to handle a variety of service functions.
Interacts with warehouse associates in a professional manner to assure on-time shipments.
Coordinates weekly freight consolidations for the refrigerated truck routes. Contacts carriers to ensure equipment availability or reschedules shipments with alternate carriers. Advises Customer Service of any changes from normal schedule.
High School diploma or GED
Must be able to communicate clearly to all domestic and international customers.
Must be able to follow and interpret established internal and regulatory guidelines provided.
Must be certified in 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations
Must have proficient pc skills.
SAP Transportation and/or Sales & Distribution knowledge preferred.
