Under supervision, this class performs work of average difficulty involving various technical traffic operations duties; assists in the inspection of construction of traffic signal systems; tests new traffic signal equipment and software; maintains a traffic control devices inventory; preforms turning movement counts; evaluates traffic signal timing; evaluates existing traffic signal operations for proper electronic systems operation; assists in the review of traffic signal plans submitted by consulting engineers; and performs other work as required.
The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position's essential duties. They are descriptive, not limited. Essential Duties: Assists construction inspectors with inspection of traffic signal, system construction and modification projects; Performs operations checks of existing traffic signal systems for proper electronic operations; Assists the design engineer in the design of signal modifications and location of existing facilities; Performs testing of new traffic signal equipment and software for conformance to specifications; Responds to public requests for investigation of improper signal operation and makes field adjustments of equipment; Maintains a traffic control devices inventory; Interprets and adjusts traffic signal timing operations; Performs other duties as related to traffic operations

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D , including or supplemented by courses in
• Four (4) years combined experience in the repair and maintenance of microprocessor
traffic signal equipment, inspection of traffic signal system construction projects and
design, analysis and implementation of traffic signal timing plans, OR;
• An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities
to perform the described duties, AND;
• Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license. Applicants must submit a
current State of California DMV printout from the Department of Motor Vehicles (dated
no older than two (2) months of the filing deadline). There will be no substitutions for
the official DMV printout. On-line DMV reports are NOT acceptable

OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Operation and maintenance of state of the art electronics and computer controlled traffic signal systems, including but not limited to, the California 170 traffic controller and peripheral equipment; Trafficware Synchro program for traffic signal timing and coordination is desirable. Ability to: Read and interpret construction plans for traffic signals and related construction; Inspect construction projects and perform checks of signal operations; Perform maintenance on complex electronic equipment; Modify traffic signal timing based on study results and standard specification revisions. Skill in: The use of electronic test equipment and operation of state of the art traffic signal controller equipment. Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: Must be willing to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions; Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.
EXAMINATION: (Weighted 100%) The method of examination may include one or more of the following: written exam; oral exam; evaluation of education, training, experience or other qualifications as shown by the application; or by other information submitted, or by the record; questionnaires submitted to references; or any other appropriate measure of fitness. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. NOTE: Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination. All pertinent information needed to determine that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications must be shown on the application, resume, supplemental questionnaire and official DMV printout; otherwise, the application may be rejected.
