Job Duties: Receives and processes emergency and
non-emergency calls for service. Question callers to determine their location
and the nature of their problem. Determine response requirements and relative
priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established
procedures. Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law
enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring
notification in a factual, timely and concise manner. Gathers, classifies and
supplements pertinent information obtained from the caller and enters it into
the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Operates a CAD console equipped with
multiple computer terminals including: Closed Circuit Television (CCTV),
mapping, alarms and 911- PBX/ IP . Queries, enters, update, and retrieve
information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding (
wanted persons, stolen property, missing persons) from the Cuyahoga Regional
Information System (CRIS),Law Enforcement Automated Data System
(LEADS),National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Records Management System
(RMS) data files. Devote full attention to monitoring and responding to
communication systems. Simultaneously coordinate multiple communications tasks
under stressful conditions. Coordinate with outside agencies. Performance of
these duties may be required anytime of the day and night, any day and night of
the week. .
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have a
high school diploma or its educational equivalent. An Associates or advanced degree preferred, but not
required. Completion of computerized dispatch programs (e.g. Cuyahoga Regional
Information System (CRIS), Computerized Criminal History (CCH), etc.) is preferred
but not required. One (1) year experience in a related emergency field or
information traffic work environment (e.g. dispatching, traffic control, etc.)
is preferred. Emergency dispatch/CJIS/ CAD and 911 experience desired.
Candidates must have a strong Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) operating systems background and the ability to multitask in a
highly changing environment. Candidates must be able to prioritize, evaluate
and quickly respond to high stress situations, exhibit excellent written and
verbal communication skills with a clear voice presence on the telephone and
radio are required. Candidate must have proven proficiency in computer key
boarding (40 wpm) and reading comprehension. Exhibit professional standards at
all times and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in
the course of work. Applicant must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION: The
position is a Fraternal
Order of Police (FOP) bargaining unit position. This position is also safety sensitive and subject to
random drug testing. The performance of these duties may be required at any
time of the day or night, any day and night of the week.
STARTING RATE EXTERNAL CANDIDATES: $ 18.70
per hr. WAGE RATE INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY : $18.70
$22.22 per hour
Examination Information: Eligible candidates will be notified of the
exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist
of three parts to include a written examination, performance assessment and/or
interview, and record evaluation for internal candidates. The record
evaluation will be weighted as 15% of the overall examination score for
candidates who have passed the written and performance assessment/interview.
Record evaluation information will be obtained from the candidate’s supervisor.
Candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the full
15% weighting. Candidates must pass the written examination to be eligible to
proceed to additional parts of the examination process required to establish
the eligibility for the position.
Candidates will become eligible based on the composite scores from each
part of the examination process. In
accordance with the Merit Systems Rules, internal candidates who become
eligible will be given preference over external candidates. Record evaluation criteria may include, but
not limited to, an employee’s attendance and discipline record for one rolling
year back at the time of review. Records evaluation information includes a
review of the following:

5 or more absence occurrences
·
2 or more AWOL or absence control
suspensions
·
3 or more active written reminders
(regardless of the level)
·
5 or more misses (regardless of whether
they are active or not active)
·
4 or more active tardies
·
Drug or alcohol suspension
Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
suspension
Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
