Under general supervision is responsible for interpreting a foreign language for the criminal justice system and acts as lead person on special projects and assignments.

Must be willing to travel to various locations throughout Maricopa County.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Translation, Interpretation or Interpretation of the English/Spanish language, and two (2) years of paid, professional translating experience in a legal or government setting. Certification with the American Translators Association (ATA) can substitute for the two years’ experience. Other combinations of education and experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to professionally edit documents while considering and implementing feedback and editing suggestions from office supervisor(s). Must demonstrate the ability to work within a unit adhering to the unit’s and office’s policies and procedures. Required to submit samples of recent work product.

NOTE: Degrees/credits must be from an academically accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education (CHEA).

Essential Job Tasks:

Draft documents in Spanish from documents in English and vice versa. Transcription and translation of recorded interviews. This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Selection Procedure:

Pursuant to the Judicial Merit System Resolution & Rules, the Maricopa County Human Resources Department performs recruitment, assessment and other personnel functions on behalf of the Court System and its departments. The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the exam process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be scored based on evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a pool provided by Human Resources.
