DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Medical Assistant Supervisor, the translator conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families and provides related back office work as assigned.

DUTIES

  • Assists health care providers by providing medical and general interpreting for staff, patients and their families and provides related work as assigned.
  • Assesses and monitors the patients understanding of information conveyed.
  • Records and monitors interpretation activities
  • Provides cultural information to staff and patients
  • Provides follow-up in person and by telephone with patients regarding appointments (to be made or missed appointments).
  • Translates clinic patient registration, public relation and education materials from English to Spanish/Spanish to English.
  • Makes copies of documents as needed for staff
  • Updates log books as needed for staff
  • Performs other back office duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skilled in verbal and written communications with ability to effectively exchange and convey information and receive work direction.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform duties of this position.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to recognize and report patients' health status based on communicated information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain acceptable working relationships with supervisors, employees, agencies, and public.
  • CPR certification and PPD status required upon hiring.
  • Certification in language translation preferred.
