Under general supervision, evaluates and designs transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency.
Researches and analyzes freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Maintains databases of freight costs, and transportation networks. Assists in negotiating transportation rates in accordance to company guidelines and standards. Assists in analysis of transportation costs, equipment availability, and service levels. Conducts cost studies to develop negotiating leverage, evaluates alternatives and reduces costs. May coordinate foreign merchandise production, quota, customs documentation, and transportation. May work with customs officials to work out delays and obtain release of incoming freight. May assist in compliance with federal regulations.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years applicable experience.
Knows principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits. Knows industry and regulatory trends. Requires moderately advanced negotiation skills. Must know how to use Transportation Management Systems to optimize transportation networks. Must have effective written and oral communication skills. May require knowledge and understanding of the practical impact of import and export regulations in a wide range of countries.
Two plus years of traffic and transportation experience
including knowledge of the carrier industry, rates and tariffs, mode
selection criteria, and industry practices and laws
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Experience in international shipping, export practices and
documents, and NAFTA
