PROGRAM/ DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:|
The Finance Department performs a vital function for Mercy Corps globally, interacting with all other departmental functions of the Agency in order to provide:
Meaningful financial information to employees, management, donors, and regulators.
Effective cash management.
Mitigation of agency risk.
The Treasury & Risk Management Officer fills a significant role in providing information for cash management; administration and coordination of insurance issues with external agencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepare daily cash management reports from internal and external banking systems
Trouble shoot banking system issues to ensure ongoing timely processing of payments and receipts
Monitoring A/R balances by grant and identifying receivable issues
Prepare of investment reports to ensure cash is invested within policy
Monitor field cash positions to ensure optimum levels of cash in the field
Prepare bank account reporting requirements
Act as liaison with insurance broker with respect to renewal and new insurance policy applications.
Collect information necessary for policy renewals and claims, including data on domestic and international field locations, property ownership and values, office headcounts, incident reporting, etc.
Work with insurance broker to facilitate claims processing and maintain claims records.
Respond to routine coverage questions and obtain Certificates of Insurance as necessary.
Other duties as assigned within scope of treasury and insurance management functions.

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: This position has dual reporting lines. For insurance related matters to the Chief Financial Officer. For Treasury related matters, to the Assistant Controller-Reporting.
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH : Treasury Team, Insurance Companies and Broker, Legal Department, International Finance and Accounting Teams.
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in finance or risk management related field or equivalent is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of electronic banking systems.
One year of demonstrated analytical skills and understanding of financial and banking reports.
Effective written and verbal communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills.
The candidate should have advanced experience working with Excel and accounting systems.
One year of experience with insurance or risk management is desired.
Experience in multi-national organizations, especially non-profits, is a plus.
Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and work cooperatively with team members is required.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, effective organizational and interpersonal skills; strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of clearly-interpreted procedures and policies.
The successful Treasury & Risk Management Officer will have the ability to work independently and employ effective time management skills, manage priorities among two direct supervisors, and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals including international staff. Additionally, he/she will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and be able to communicate financial information in a succinct, organized manner. The most successful Mercy Corps team members have a positive approach, a strong commitment to team work and personal accountability, the ability to be flexible and maintain a sense of humor.
LIVING /ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position will be based in Portland, OR.
Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
