GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Supports the Operations Department in the optimization of wind farm performance.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides engineering support to on-site staff for issues relating to a) overall facility and individual turbine operational performance, b) facility infrastructure, including substations, collection systems, communication systems, roads, etc., and c) administration and oversight of service provider agreements
Monitors facility operating statistics as compared to expected performance, and identifies and addresses positive and negative operational trends
Collaborates with wind and performance assessment staff to ensure proper equipment operation and maximize facility performance
Supports turbine supply, balance of plant, and other contract origination and budgeting activities
Supports development and construction plans and activities in the balancing of build costs and operability
Assists management with information and on-site operating staff with technical and quality issues
Interfaces with engineering, accounting, and development staff, and other individuals both inside and outside the company, as required
Supports commissioning of new wind farms
Reviews progress and effectiveness of maintenance scheduling and planning
Acts as on-the-ground point of contact for the operational excellence, best practices, and SOP programs
Executes root cause analysis
Works closely with Technical Manager and corresponding Asset Manager
Participates in technical & HSE audits and reviews
Supports Development and Construction on wind farm engineering aspects
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect equipment or collect information, including climbing 80-90 meter steel towers on a daily basis in order to perform maintenance in the nacelle and hub
Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 60 pounds and to occasionally lift items weighing between 60 and 100 pounds
Ability to work in extremely adverse weather conditions
Ability to work around low- and medium-voltage equipment
Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Written and oral communication skills
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Desire to increase professional knowledge of turbine equipment
Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to other operational sites within the US as needed
Ability and willingness to work overtime on holidays and weekends and to work on short notice as needed due to on-call scheduling
Experience with power plant operations and maintenance, wind plant operations and turbines (including turbine power converters specifically), high-voltage switching, and post-operational repair and maintenance of Vestas & G.E. turbines preferred

Position Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 5 years of commissioning and wind industry experience, including industrial controls and hydraulics

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:

KNOWLEDGE: Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulics, controls, and PLC; proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Familiarity with heavy machinery, generators, and power generation equipment strongly preferred
