Position Title: Tutor I (Part-Time) TRIO Student Support Services

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Tutor I serves under the title Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Tutor and reports to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services . TRIO SSS program provides academic, personal, social, financial, cultural and technological services to low-income, disabled and first-generation college students. Academic Tutors are needed to provide tutorial services/academic enrichment for SSS participants in the areas of:
- Science (i.e. Chemistry, Biology),
Experience working with low-income, disabled and/or first generation college students is a plus.
A minimum of an Associate's Degree (A.A., A.S.) in discipline, or 15 semester hours / 23 quarter hours of college level credit and successful completion of freshmen level courses in the discipline, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in discipline courses is required.
A Bachelor's degree in the desired area (or a closely related field) in which candidate seeks to provide tutorial assistance is preferred.
- Ability to work with faculty, staff and students.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening and communication skills are required.
- Computer skills are required.
- Exceptional ability to convey personal knowledge of subject matter to students in a fundamental and supportive manner.
- Schedule flexibility is preferred.
- Qualified candidates that are TRIO Alumni or have similar backgrounds of the program participants are strongly considered.
Position requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
Criminal history check required.
Competency test in field required.
Computer skills, and a Calculator for Math tutors.
This is a part-time 19 hour per week position. Though working hours may be flexible, scheduling will be based primarily on the scheduling needs of the program participants. Candidates desiring evening, afternoon, and weekend hours will be considered; however, strong preference will be given to qualified applicants who are available Monday - Friday during morning through afternoon hours.

Salary $9.222 - $11.526 per hour. Maximum 19 hours per week.
