Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required, degree in architecture or construction management is preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing construction projects of significant complexity. Experience in hospital construction and working with TDSHS, JCAHO, and Life Safety Code is desired.
Environmental / Working Conditions
This position is mostly subject to inside working conditions however, outdoor work is required, depending on the specific projects. Hours may be long and irregular. 24/7 on-call availability is required and must be able to be on the hospital premesis within 30 minutes.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Duties will require working with many other department directors, nursing staff, medical staff, TTUHSC, regulatory agencies, and outside contractors, professionals, and vendors.
Work is of medium physical demand. Near visual acuity is required.
Skills and Abilities
Must be able to read and interpret construction documents, be familiar with commercial construction techniques, various construction trades, medical gas systems, building and life safety codes, and spreadsheet and database use. Must be able to use software to prepare/manipulate basic floor plans. Must have significant commercial construction experience.
The Director of Construction Services assumes the responsibility for planning and administering all construction and renovation activities for the health system.
