* Monitors clinical competencies of staff, developing and supervising unit-specific orientation programs, and precepting new staff.
* Ensures documentation of all staff activities are on file with the Nurse Manager.
* Offers and implements solutions to unit challenges and/or problems.

This unit provides nurses an opportunity to work with children of all ages who have complex surgeries and critical illnesses. Children receive treatment from staff specializing in general pediatrics, cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, neurology and other areas. Surgical procedures involve specialists in pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, and ear, nose and throat surgery. PICU patients can take advantage of the same services provided to general pediatric inpatients. Parents have 24-hour access to the secure unit.


*Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
* Current Kansas RN license is needed.
* 2 years clinical experience is required.
* Must have an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
