The UNIX System Administrator III ensures fast, efficient, user friendly access to authorized content for authenticated users. Provides high availability infrastructure where authorized users choose DTIC products over other potential sources and are able to access relevant content at anytime from anywhere within their classification environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge/quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative/motivation, cooperation/relationships, problem analysis/discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral/written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability/dependability, flexibility and ownership/accountability of actions taken.
Responsible for system administration on all UNIX servers. These include: installation, backups, patch maintenance, performance tuning, monitoring results of cron jobs, hardware/software installs, de-installs, upgrades, and relocations to ensure no operational impacts occur.
Responsible for creating and following standard processes, plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule, and clearly document results in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Builds, upgrades and maintains server hardware in development, staging, and production environments.
Responsible for efficient management of all customer trouble tickets assuring the correct support engineer is assigned, the ticket is monitored and closed or escalated within specifications.
Periodic OFF-HOURS should be expected; monthly weekend maintenance is required.
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of own professional discipline. Requires in-depth understanding of the purpose and operations outside own area. Understands internal/external client; may require awareness of external trends and industry’s best practices.
Receives general instructions for new responsibilities from supervisor.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in a computer related field and five (5) years’ experience in UNIX System Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive experience with UNIX operating system administration: Solaris (9/10) and Linux is required. Must have experience managing DNS and DNS(SEC). DNS administration through Infoblox appliance is highly desired along with a good understanding of Sendmail, Anti-Spam, and Anti-Virus applications. Desired skills include: Virtualization concepts using VMware and/or Solaris zones as well as Jumpstart and Kickstart. Experience with managing IPv6 devices, and supporting UNIX infrastructure including: DHCP and LDAP services. Has the ability to write and debug scripts written in PERL and in regular SHELL. Configures NFS, CIFS, iSCSI and is familiar with shared storage concepts. Knowledge with Defense Information System Agency (DISA) Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)
