CSC has an immediate opening for a UNIX Systems Administrator – Red Hat Linux in support of the Information Technology Capabilities Contract (ITCC), which provides modernized and secure IT infrastructure support to USSTRATCOM at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Although the frequency will be very low, this job will require being on call to provide off-shift support and week-end support. Limited 24x7 support will be required.
Essential Job Functions
Installs, configures and maintains Linux workstations and servers, in support of processing requirements.
Performs software installations and upgrades to Linux operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
Ensures Linux workstations/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services.
Conducts routine hardware and software audits of Linux workstations/servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines
Analyzes, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware matters of significance pertaining to networking connectivity issues, printer, servers, and applications to meet business needs.
Coordinates hardware/software installations and upgrades to ensure work is properly performed in accordance with company policy. Recommends resolution to complex matters of significance and coordinates the implementation of the approved course of action.
Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; documents system events to ensure continuous functioning. Recommends course of action and implements as approved.
Oversees the installation of client department-specific applications and systems. Ensures installations are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; determines revisions or updates to installation as needed.
Coordinates testing, upgrades and configuration of system files and services. Ensures changes are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results. Prepares for and prescribes approaches to possible downstream implications.
Utilizes standard corporate tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Four or more years of experience with computer systems or networking
Experience working with computer hardware for installation and upgrades
Experience working with software installation/upgrading procedures
Experience working with file and system maintenance procedures
DoD Top Secret clearance/NC2 required
3-5 years of experience in system administration on a medium to large-scale network required
Experience providing high availability solutions with Sun products required
Experience in developing policies and procedures for managing systems required
Ability to develop schedules to support building and deploying systems required
A good understanding of network principals, system troubleshooting required
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for servers and desktops (RHEL 4.5 thru RHEL 6) commands and tools required
Experience with Logical Volume Manager; NFS; Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, VMware Virtualization or Oracle Virtualization; networking protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, etc); Shell scripting; System patching; and Basic system security required
Knowledge and skills with Red Hat Cluster, Red Hat Security Extensions, Oracle/Solaris 10, Oracle/Solaris Zones/Containers, Oracle/Solaris LDOM's,
Oracle ZFS, Oracle/Solaris Flash Archive and Flash Restore, SSH, Apache,
Big Brother, Perl, DNS, Samba, Sendmail, Tivoli Storage Manager, LDAP,
SAN management, Ops Center, and SAN Concepts desired
Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work, and multitask
Good analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot systems problems
Good communication skills to communicate with support personnel, customers, and managers
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
