Mandarin Chinese Substitute Teaching Opportunities – Upper School
On-Call / As Needed Basis
Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting to develop an on-call list of Mandarin Chinese Substitute Teachers for the Upper School Language Department.
Substitute Teaching positions at Lakeside are on-call and used to cover classes on an as needed basis. Specific responsibilities include:
Classroom instruction with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students’ ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of China;
Conferences with students and colleagues, as necessary;
Active participation in the life of the school community when on campus for an extended substitute assignment;
Based on the teaching assignment, class syllabus and teaching materials will be created and support from the language department will be provided as necessary.
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree; should possess native or near-native proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English (must be able to interact with colleagues, students and families proficiently in English); have e xperience teaching at the High School, late Middle School or college level; and be required to successfully complete a criminal background check.
Compensation Rate: $37.50 per class up to a maximum of $150/day.
Long-term substitute teaching assignments will be paid $165/day for the 15 th day in the same assignment (retroactive to the first day of that assignment).
