You could experience the best of two worlds by taking advantage of the opportunity to become a Citizen Soldier in the United States Army Reserve Military Technician Program. As a Citizen Soldier, you are employed by the Department of Army as a civilian working a normal full-time workweek with all the benefits available to a Federal service employee to include health and life insurance, retirement and Thrift Savings Plan, and accrual of leave (annual, sick and military). When duty calls, you can proudly put on the uniform as a military service member of the United States Army Reserve and receive the pay and benefits associated with the military assignment. As a member of the United States Army Reserve, you are required to perform military duty one weekend a month and at least fourteen days a year of annual training. In your civilian position, you perform work in direct support of the US Army Reserve in an administrative, professional or maintenance related position. As a US Army Reserve Military Technician, you are a vital link in the chain of command of the United States Army Reserve and civil service, working with professionals like yourself at locations around the world or as close as next door. This position is with the 347 Quartermaster Company, 316 Expeditionary Sustainment Command located in Farrell, Pennsylvania.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES MEMBERSHIP IN THE U.S. ARMY RESERVES (USAR).
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
The business travel requirement is 10 percent.

The duties of this position include:
Assist the Unit Administrator in the performance of administrative functions, clerical tasks and supply work.
Process personnel and military pay actions, maintain files and records, prepare and process supply actions, prepare training schedules, and prepare unit attendance records.
Proficient with automated systems to enter military personnel data, compile information for recurring and one-time reports related to functions of the unit, and prepare general correspondence.
Review all work for compliance with regulations, policies and procedures.
Provide advice on procedures for enlisting or transferring to a unit, assist in completing forms, make arrangements for physical exams, and answer general questions on eligibility for promotions, transfers, and discharges.
Monitor key logistical areas that impact unit readiness, such as equipment serviceability and on-hand status of equipment.
To qualify at the GS-05, applicants must possess one year of Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes work that involves performing clerical or administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence, filing and data entry; processing a variety of personnel or pay actions; and interpreting and/or applying regulatory or procedural requirements.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures relating to military personnel programs
- Knowledge of automated systems
- Ability to gather, organize and compile correspondence
- Skill in customer service
- Ability to organize workload
Education : To qualify at the GS-05 using education, you must possess four (4) full years of education above high school from an accredited college or university.
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education : You must possess some specialized experience and some education as described above. The percentage of the requirements that you must meet is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify) (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

This position offers a $3000 recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed as civilians in the Federal Government. You may qualify with a break in service of less than 90 days only if your previous Federal civilian appointment was a time-limited, or not permanent, appointment. Moving expenses may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
New Army Reserve Military Technicians may be authorized moving expenses to their first official duty station. To be eligible to receive moving expenses, you must be a newly appointed Federal civilian employee or have a minimum of a 3 day break in service from previous Federal civilian employment.
