The primary purpose of the position is to provide advice to Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) undergraduate students with regard to course selection and other academic issues. The coordinator monitors academic progress of students and helps students identify needs (e.g., study skills, tutoring) and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance. The incumbent understands and explains department, college, and university academic policies and procedures. The coordinator maintains student records, as well as the confidentiality of those records. The incumbent participates in College of Engineering Academic Advisors meetings, as well as departmental committees, such as curriculum and recruitment. Ensures the advising portion of the BSE undergraduate web pages is kept current by providing updated information to the undergraduate coordinator. A second focus of the position is undergraduate student recruitment and includes coordination of, and participation in, as appropriate, recruiting activities for the department.

Minimum Qualifications
â?¢ Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling, engineering, science, or related field or combination of Bachelor's degree and applicable experience. â?¢ Must enjoy working with students â?¢ Excellent communication skills â?¢ Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office software â?¢ Excellent organizational skills, creativity, flexibility and self-motivation â?¢ Attention to detail â?¢ Ability to maintain confidentiality â?¢ Ability to interact respectfully with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment

Preferred Qualifications
â?¢ Knowledge of mechanisms of student retention, student development theories, career development strategies, counseling skills, and recruitment strategies â?¢ Classroom instructional experience and/or counseling or advising in a university setting â?¢ A broad knowledge of university policies and procedures, particularly related to registration, class scheduling, degree and graduation requirements â?¢ Advanced computer skills, particularly related to data management software â?¢ An ability to use and interpret the BANNER family of administrative systems â?¢ Knowledge of Career Services practices including recruitment and placement
