Under immediate supervision and in a training capacity, analyzes new and existing personal lines business to evaluate degree of risk and potential exposure; recommends acceptance, rejection or modification of coverage and recommends appropriate premiums according to guidelines as provided under Company policies and in compliance with current legislation. Includes formal underwriting training and is intended to prepare incumbent for assignment as Underwriter typically within 6 - 9 months.
Worker characteristics are normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate 4-year program.
A minimum of 2-years related experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
Effective and diplomatic verbal and written communication skills to correspond with agents, insureds, marketing and claims personnel concerning policies, coverage, etc.
Solid comprehension of basic principles and practices of underwriting upon completion of formal training period.
Analytical ability to evaluate less complex personal lines business and determine amount of risk and potential exposure to the Company and apply equitable premiums.
Requires critical attention to detail and strong organizational skill.
