Associate of Science in Nursing

RN Required

Primary Responsibilities:
The Unit Director is responsible for coordinating all administrative, technical, and/or clinical functions relating to the provision of services on a 24-hour basis within their unit/department. Provides leadership for all components of the unit/department to maximize customer satisfaction. The Unit Director develops educational programs, formulates policies and procedures, establishes goals, engages in problem-solving activities, and provides fiscal management relating to the operation of the unit/department. Must possess the maturity, ability and flexibility to deal effectively with the constant changing situations encountered in the complex health care environment.

Successful completion of Reid Hospital orientation and competency based skills appropriate for the area assigned. Individual performance and competency based skills are maintained through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities. Written exempt evaluations are done on an annual basis, reviewed and approved by Administration (CEO/CNO). Must maintain competence in BLS after initial training. ACLS trained every two years by attending ACLS classes in an “auditor” capacity (certification not required). Must be ACLS certified if direct area of supervision requires staff to be ACLS certified (i.e. Critical Care, Cath Lab). A calm, pleasant, professional demeanor is expected. Must have the ability to work cooperatively with all staff, physicians and departments. Must be committed to Patient Satisfaction and Patient Safety. Bachelor’s Degree required, with Master’s degree preferred. Certification in appropriate field encouraged. Experience as a staff nurse required. Must demonstrate leadership qualities. Must demonstrate interest in professional, community and national current events and self-development. CONTINUING EDUCATION: The Unit Director is expected to maintain and increase own knowledge through both formal and informal education resulting in a positive influence on the quality of nursing practice and promotion of a learning environment for staff, patients and family.Demonstrates knowledge of and stimulates use of current nursing research/health care trends. Licensure in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse is required. A “Registered Nurse” bears primary responsibility and accountability for nursing practices based on specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, and behavioral sciences.
